"Antibiotics for Sepsis: How Fast, How Broad, How Long?" The Arthur Grollman Visiting Professorship in Experimental Medicine Speaker: Michael Klompas, M.D., M.P.H. Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School Co-Director, Sepsis Center, Brigham & Women's Hospital About Michael Klompas: Dr. Klompas earned his medical degree from the University of Toronto, completed his internal medicine residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and obtained fellowship training in infectious diseases at Massachusetts General Hospital. He focuses clinically on emerging infectious diseases, pneumonia, and sepsis. He has authored extensive research on the surveillance, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of hospital-acquired pneumonia, ventilator-associated events, and sepsis. His expertise has led to service on multiple national guideline panels, including the ATS–IDSA committee on hospital-acquired pneumonia, the SHEA panel on strategies to prevent ventilator-associated pneumonia (where he is co-chair), an…

The construction of mental representations in human planning Speaker: Mark Ho, Ph.D. Assistant Professor at New York University Abstract: One of the most striking features of human intelligence is our capacity to rapidly and flexibly plan. Planning enables people to solve numerous everyday problems---e.g., planning how to complete a list of errands on a busy day---but planning is also very computationally demanding. How do we effectively plan despite fundamental constraints on our time, memory, and attention? My talk will cover recent work that investigates how the flexible construction of task representations facilitates efficient planning in humans. I will discuss value-guided construal, a general computational account of how people form simplified, ad hoc representations for planning and acting. By investigating the computational principles that underpin how people intelligently construe problems, this approach provides a new perspective on the dynamic interplay of cognitive control, causal reas…
Green Champions April Styrofoam Recycling | Earth Month 2026 - UT Southwestern Events Calendar
https://events.utsouthwestern.edu/event/green-champions-april-styrofoam-recycling-earth-month-2026
Join the UT Southwestern Green Champions for our Earth Month Green Labs Styrofoam Recycling Volunteer Day on Friday, April 17, from 8-10 a.m. Registration Preferred. Styrofoam is a non-biodegradable material that takes hundreds of years to break down in landfills. It makes up a significant portion of landfill waste and can pollute waterways and habitats. Join us to help divert this waste, earn volunteer hours, and connect and network with students, lab members, and colleagues from across campus. Don't forget to bring closed-toed shoes and a friend or labmate!, powered by Localist, the Community Event Platform

Clara Abraham, M.D. | Internal Medicine Research Conference - UT Southwestern Events Calendar
https://events.utsouthwestern.edu/event/internal-medicine-research-conference-clara-abraham
"Unraveling Connections: IBD Genes and Immunity" Speaker: Clara Abraham, M.D. Professor of Medicine Division of Digestive Diseases Yale School of Medicine About Clara Abraham: Dr. Abraham holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, which she received with high honors. She earned her medical degree at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, where she then obtained advanced training through a fellowship in gastroenterology. She later completed postdoctoral training in T cell biology at the University of Chicago before joining the faculty there. Dr. Abraham’s research examines immunological pathways that regulate intestinal immune homeostasis and drive inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Her work focuses on innate immune mechanisms identified through IBD genetic studies, integrating in vivo models with primary human cell analyses to define how IBD‑associated genes function and influence disease development. Th…
