Victor López, Ph.D., an HHMI Hanna Gray postdoctoral scholar in the laboratory of Vincent Tagliabracci, Ph.D., in the Department of Molecular Biology, as the 2026 recipient of the Brown-Goldstein Award. Dr. López uses bioinformatic tools to discover orphan enzymes for which activities are known but no protein has been identified. He identified dolichol kinase (DOLK) and TMEM19 as missing metazoan polyisoprenyl lipid kinases and is using them to study the polyisoprenyl salvage pathway and its potential role in statin-induced myopathy, in collaboration with Russell Debose-Boyd, Ph.D., Professor of Molecular Genetics. The Brown-Goldstein Award for Excellence in Postdoctoral Research is the highest honor for research accomplishment bestowed by the Graduate School on a postdoctoral research fellow, honoring the contributions of Drs.
