"What's New in HIV: Updates from CROI 2026" Speaker: Hayden Andrews, M.D. Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine Division of Infectious Diseases and Geographic Medicine UT Southwestern Medical Center About Hayden Andrews: Dr. Andrews holds a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from the University of Texas at Austin. He earned his medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine and completed internal medicine residency training at Massachusetts General Hospital, followed by advanced training through a fellowship in infectious diseases at the combined Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital program in Boston. He joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2024. Dr. Andrews leads the anal dysplasia clinic for Parkland HIV Services, a department of Parkland Health, using high-resolution anoscopy to screen for and treat precancerous anal lesions. "Decoding Metabolic Disease by Forward Genetics" Speaker: Zhao Zhang, Ph.D. Assistant Professor Center for the Genetics of Host Disease UT Southwestern Medical Center About Zhao Zhang: Dr. Zhang holds a bachelor's degree in biotechnology from Shandong University and a doctorate in developmental biology from the Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Dr. Zhang’s research centers on uncovering molecular mechanisms that drive human disease, spanning work in zebrafish, Drosophila, and mouse models. His graduate studies identified new regulators of the Hedgehog signaling pathway and revealed an unexpected role for this pathway in the Drosophila testis stem cell niche. As a postdoctoral researcher, he used forward genetics in mice to discover regulators of Toll‑like receptor signaling, tumor metastasis, obesity, diabetes, and NAFLD, culminating in his major contribution: the discovery of the teeny metabolic syndrome caused by a mutation in Kbtbd2, an E3 ubiq…

Seldin UT Southwestern Medical Center’s research legacy rivals that of institutions far older, thanks largely to one transformative figure: Dr. Donald W. Seldin. When Dr. Seldin arrived from Yale in 1951, UT Southwestern consisted of deteriorating barracks and a single brick building.
