Come celebrate the 36th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and honor the contributions, experiences, and strengths of our community on Wednesday, July 8. The event will begin at 11:30 a.m. with a light lunch reception featuring desserts catered by Bitty and Beau’s Coffee, an organization dedicated to employing and empowering individuals with disabilities. Heakyung Kim, M.D., Chair and Professor for the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at UT Southwestern, will deliver the keynote at noon, followed by a panel discussion on caring for patients with disabilities. Hosted by the Office for Institutional Opportunity, this event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on South Campus in D1.502 and livestreamed on UTSW’s YouTube channel for those unable to attend in person. Accessibility 101 is an interactive, foundational session that provides a broad overview of accessibility in everyday work. Through real examples and guided discussion, participants explore why accessibility matters, what is expected by policy, and how to approach documents, presentations, and meetings. The session emphasizes simple, actionable improvements and how to access support resources. By the end of this session, participants will be able to: Explain the purpose and scope of accessibility within the organization, including key policies and expectations.Recognize and name at least two core accessibility practices (e.g., document structure, alt text, color contrast, captions, or clear language) used in common work materials.Identify 1-2 practical ways to incorporate accessibility into daily workflows and know how to request support when needed., powered by Localist, the Community Event Platform

Join us July 6–7, 2026, for the 30th Advanced Imaging Research Center (AIRC) Symposium, a milestone event celebrating innovation, collaboration, and legacy. This year’s symposium is especially significant as we also commemorate the 20th anniversary of the center, honor Dr. Dean Sherry for his years of dedicated service, and mark the exciting ribbon cutting of the new 3T MRI scanner, MAGNETOM Cima.X. The event will kick off with a historical overview presented by Dr. Craig Malloy, highlighting the center’s journey and impact over the past two decades. Day 1 will feature a keynote presentation from Dr. Dean Sherry, reflecting on his contributions and vision in the field. On day 2, Dr. Anke Henning will deliver the recent scientific advances, offering insights into the future of AIRC.
