"Orphan Drug Mechanisms Reveal Unexpected Cancer Targets and Pathways" Speaker: Pano Theodoropoulos, M.D., Ph.D. Instructor of Radiation Oncology UT Southwestern Medical Center About Pano Theodoropoulos: Dr. Theodoropoulos earned a bachelor’s degree in biological chemistry from the University of Chicago and completed both his medical degree and doctorate in biochemistry at UT Southwestern, where he also trained through the Physician-Scientist Training Program. His research focuses on understanding how small bioactive molecules work in cells and using that knowledge to develop new approaches to cancer treatment. A major theme of his work is uncovering how experimental cancer-fighting compounds exert their effects. He has helped define how a glioblastoma toxin becomes activated inside cells and disables a key metabolic pathway required for tumor growth. "Building Sustainable Models of Care for Adults in Sickle Cell Disease: Is it Possible?" Speaker: Foluso Joy Ogunsile, M.D. Medical Director, Sickle Cell Medical Home Memorial Healthcare System About Foluso Ogunsile: Dr. Ogunsile received her medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed internal medicine residency training at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. She then obtained fellowship training in hematology at Johns Hopkins Unversity in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Ogunsile currently serves as Medical Director of the Adult Sickle Cell Medical Home at the Memorial Healthcare System, where she provides longitudinal care for approximately 350 adults with sickle cell disease. In this role, she supervises advanced practice providers and a multidisciplinary care team, develop and implement institutional clinical protocols and workflows, and lead system-wide education, community engagement, and clinical trial participation.
