"Teaching for Learning: UDL, Scaffolding, and Cognitive Apprenticeship Teaching for Learning: UDL, Scaffolding, and Cognitive Apprenticeship" Presented by: Dr. Yulia Piller The Effective Teacher Series is a faculty development program provided for all faculty at UT Southwestern to develop and enhance teaching skills. It is coordinated by the Office of Medical Education in its goal to improve pedagogical skills and the evaluation of students and trainees. The program consists of approximately 15 seminars taught by faculty members who have a track record of success in the classroom and/or clinical settings. Each month, generally two seminars are presented in a one-hour seminar format that combines didactic instruction with question/answer discussion. Additional multiple formats are used to achieve goals including interactive discussions, and demonstrations. Join the Department of Biomedical Engineering for the first installment of the 2026 BME Distinguished Seminar Series featuring Michael Cho, Ph.D., Chair and Professor of Bioengineering at University of Texas at Arlington, on Monday, February 16, 2026 at 11 a.m. Dr. Cho will present Repurposed Therapeutics for Vascular Stabilization: From Traumatic Brain Injury to Tumor Therapy. Dr. Cho is a professor of bioengineering and serves as Chair of the Department of Bioengineering at the University of Texas at Arlington. His research program integrates engineering innovation with biomedical science to address critical challenges in human health, with a primary focus on the mechanisms and mitigation of blunt force brain tissue injuries. "Biological Image-Guided Adaptive Radiotherapy in High Grade Gliomas" Presented by Dr. Jill De Vis Jill De Vis is a current Assistant Professor in the Radiation Oncology Department of UT Southwestern. She obtained her Medical Degree in Belgium, and her Ph.D. in Utrecht, The Netherlands. She started a Radiology Residency in the Netherlands, but she decided not to complete this after committing to move to the US with her husband. She has spent time doing research at Johns Hopkins and at the NIH, before returning to clinical medicine in the US. She completed a Radiation Oncology residency at Vanderbilt after which she started working at UTSW. Her research and clinical work focus on disease of the Central Nervous System and imaging biomarkers to improve treatment outcomes. Food will be provided to those attending in person.
