“Quantitative CEST MRI: From Theory to Clinic.” Presented by Phillip Zhe Sun, Ph.D. Phillip Zhe Sun, Ph.D., is a professor in the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Sun serves as director of the Imaging Center at Emory National Biomedical Research Center. Dr. Sun is a member of the Discovery and Developmental Therapeutics Research Program at Winship Cancer Institute. Dr. Sun earned his Ph.D. in the Radiological Science Joint Program from the Division of Health Sciences and Technology, Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Continuing health research is ethically imperative and critically needed to document and understand the health effects of war and to develop and test effective interventions to promote health and treat illness under extreme conditions. Yet conducting research in settings of armed conflict is both logistically and ethically challenging. "Refining Biomarker Strategies and Unveiling New Therapeutic Vulnerabilities in Cancer" Speaker: Amin Nassar, M.D. Medical Oncology Fellow Division of Hematology & Oncology Yale New Haven Hospital About Amin Nassar: Dr. Nassar holds a bachelor's degree from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon, where he also received his medical degree. He then completed internal medicine residency training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Nassar’s interests include cancer genomics, tumor mutational burden, immunotherapy outcomes, and health disparities in oncology, with a focus on ancestry-associated differences in cancer biology and treatment response. Dr. Nassar’s research centers on cancer genomics and the molecular determinants of treatment response, with a particular emphasis on how genetic ancestry, sex, and other patient-specific factors influence tumor biology and clinical outcomes. The monthly Komen Breast Cancer Research Forum will be held on the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 9-10am. The Forum is organized by Drs. Heather McArthur, Ariella Hanker, and Qing Zhang to help facilitate information exchange among basic, translational, and clinical investigators with a focus in breast cancer as well as foster interactions between clinicians and scientists. One main objective of this forum is to jointly learn what the institutional assets in breast cancer are so we can make decisions on what we are capable in terms of multi-investigator research grants, clinical trials, mentoring, outreach, and program building. This will also inform recruitment needs and areas of investment geared towards establishing and growing a Translational Research Breast Cancer Program based at the Simmons Cancer Center.
