Natural selection and complex-trait architecture from alleles to haplotypes Speaker: Evan Koch, Ph.D. Assistant Professor at Yale School of Medicine Abstract: Natural selection is a major force shaping variation, and understanding it is necessary to explain the genetic architecture and prevalence of heritable diseases. Population genetics models of selection at the phenotypic level make different predictions about the joint distribution of allelic effect sizes and frequencies of trait-associated variants. We test models of neutral evolution, long-term directional selection, and stabilizing selection, including pleiotropic models of stabilizing and purifying selection, and find that most traits show consistency with stabilizing selection and suggest that selection is pleiotropic. Linkage disequilibrium provides additional discriminatory power between models: under stabilizing selection, haplotypes carrying alleles with opposing trait effects may be overrepresented if compensatory effects escape se…

The Total Care Program for Parkinson's Disease will host a holiday party on December 11, 2026, with Dance for PD Dallas, a program that provides dance classes for people with Parkinson's disease and their care partners. These classes, led by certified Dance for PD® instructors, incorporate various dance styles like modern, ballet, jazz, tap, and world dance. The goal is to improve social participation, gait, and balance through visual and auditory cues. The classes are designed to stimulate the mind and body, nurture participants, enhance their talents, and build self-confidence.
