International DPT Students

Thank you for your interest in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. UT Southwestern Medical Center is a dynamic and diverse learning community that welcomes hundreds of students from around the world each year. Here are some important tips to remember as you prepare your application.

Academic Prerequisites

You’ll need to complete all of the program prerequisites, even if you’ve earned a medical degree in another country.

Transcripts

Submit original transcripts from each college or university attended to PTCAS. Please keep copies of the transcripts.

Transcript Evaluations

An independent evaluation of your transcripts is required if you received your degree from a university outside of the United States. The evaluation should include subject breakdown, semester credit hours, and grade for each undergraduate course. For the transcript evaluation, contact:

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

If English is not your native language, we need to know that you speak it well enough to perform effectively as a student. Please send your TOEFL scores before the application deadline. We require a minimum score of 600 on the paper exam, 250 on the computer-based exam, and 100 on the iBT exam. If your TOEFL score is more than two years old, we may ask you to take the test again. Our TOEFL school code is 6686.

The UTSW International Affairs Office has a host of resources for international students and can provide additional information about visas and immigration.

Licensure for International Students

International students also may need to meet special requirements before they can be licensed as physical therapists in Texas. Check with the Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Examiners for more details.
