The Division of Thoracic Surgery employs the latest and most effective surgical techniques in treating chest diseases, lung disease, thoracic oncology, mesothelioma, esophageal/swallowing diseases, and thymic cancer.

We are pleased to welcome Kemp Kernstine, M.D., Ph.D., as Chief of this Division at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Focus on Lung Cancer

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related mortality, and as the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in North Texas we are dedicated to improving treatment options for this deadly disease. Dr. Kernstine is a talented surgeon, renowned investigator, and exemplary educator, and his contributions to this mission will be immediate and significant.
