Independent Program

The independent model follows the traditional pathway and is designed for applicants who are board-eligible and fully trained in general surgery, although candidates with other backgrounds will be considered if they meet the requirements of the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Applicants must have completed the general surgery requirements stipulated by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and approved by the Committee of Credentials.

Outstanding residents fulfilling the plastic surgery independent program requirements including anticipated completion of an ACGME-accredited General Surgery, neurological surgery, orthopaedic surgery, otolaryngology, or urology residency; may apply for the traditional three-year residency training program in plastic and reconstructive surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
