What to expect at the 75th anniversary celebration on Thursday

UT Southwestern’s year-long celebration of its 75th anniversary is in full swing. The big party is 3-5 p.m. this Thursday, May 10, on McDermott Plaza on South Campus.

So get ready to celebrate! You’re invited to join your fellow UT Southwestern employees, faculty, and students in celebrating accomplishments of the past and looking toward the future. Pick up your 75th anniversary T-shirt, grab a snack (including ice cream!), enjoy live music from UTSW employee band the Transactivators, and hear remarks from special guests.

The Transactivators include UTSW’s Dr. Eric Olson, Professor and Chair of Molecular Biology and Director of the Hamon Center for Regenerative Science and Medicine; Dr. Jay Schneider, Associate Professor of Internal Medicine (Cardiology) and Associate Director of the Hamon Center; Dr. David Rogers, Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology; and Stephen Johnson, Software Systems Supervisor in Molecular Biology.

Yes, there will be live music in McDermott Plaza. Yes, the band is made up of our own faculty. And yes, it will be a celebration to remember.

Speakers will include representatives from UTSW executive leadership, the Employee Advisory Council, and student government, as well as state of Texas elected officials. At the event, share your photos on social media using #UTSW75.

In his message to the campus, Dr. Daniel K. Podolsky, President of UT Southwestern, said: “This anniversary is … an opportunity to advance the next era in UT Southwestern’s journey. Building on the first 75 years, UT Southwestern in the years ahead can transform the health of our community and worldwide through the discoveries that will be made, the care delivered, and the education and training that will remain a cornerstone of our institution. Each of us at UT Southwestern is in a position to make a difference and to contribute to our commitment to excellence, compassion, innovation, and teamwork.”

Some updates:

  • If you haven’t already, let us know if you’re attending!
  • The forecast calls for warm, sunny weather on Thursday, so consider sun protection (hat, sunscreen) and stay hydrated. There will be plenty of water at the plaza.
  • If you’ve already picked up your T-shirt (only one per person, please), wear it to the party! Otherwise, you may pick one up at the event and use a changing station in Gooch Auditorium to get into the spirit.

Not sure you can make it? We’re celebrating in many ways throughout the main campus and at satellite locations. Get all the details on shuttles and T-shirt pickup locations at the My UTSW story.
