UT Southwestern Medical Center's Institutional Review Board (IRB) meets the first, second, third and fourth Monday and Wednesday of each month (except some holidays) to review new research and continuing review of ongoing research applications.
New studies are assigned to the first available IRB meeting accepting studies. Each meeting reviews approximately six new studies.
Applications for continuing review of ongoing research are typically assigned to the Board that last reviewed the study; however there are some factors which may require the study to be reviewed by another Board. These include:
- IRB Board membership expertise;
- IRB Board membership conflict of interest with either the Sponsor or Investigator; and
- Date of study expiration.
Each meeting reviews approximately eight continuing review studies.
Once your study has been assigned to a meeting for review, the Principal Investigator, Research Coordinator and Primary Administrative Contact will be notified via email approximately one week before the meeting date.
