New Faculty June/July 2004

H.M. "Monty" Evans, Ph.D., recently joined the UT Southwestern faculty as an assistant professor of psychiatry. He had been a clinical associate professor at UT Southwestern, as well as an adjunct professor at Southern Methodist University. Dr. Evans also has served as a staff psychologist at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas, director of numerous programs at Baylor University Medical Center, director of psychology services at Harris Hospital, H.E.B., and in private practice.

He received his Ph.D. from the University of North Texas and trained at the Dallas Psychoanalytic Institute at UT Southwestern.

Dr. Evans' research interests include mindfulness meditation, self-regulation, medical education and women's medical/health psychology.

Qinghua Liu, Ph.D., has received an appointment as assistant professor of biochemistry at UT Southwestern. Prior to joining the faculty, he was a postdoctoral fellow at UT Southwestern under Dr. Xiaodong Wang, professor of biochemistry, where Dr. Liu's research has focused on the biochemical analysis of RNA interference.

In 2001 Dr. Liu received a Damon Runyon Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation. He also received a $150,000, two-year "high-risk" Dean's Grant from UT Southwestern in 2002. Dr. Liu has one patent, for rapid subcloning using site-specific recombination.

Dr. Liu earned his B.S. in biochemistry from Wuhan University in China in 1992, and a Ph.D. in cell and molecular biology from Baylor College of Medicine in 2001.
