Health Watch - Exercise: Stay Inside

This week on Health Watch, we’re talking about taking inspiration from the recent Winter Olympics and taking another stab at achieving your fitness resolutions from the new year. When it’s cold outside, it’s tempting to stay on the sofa, but there are ways to exercise without going out in the cold.

Dr. Peter Snell, an exercise physiologist at UT Southwestern Medical Center and Olympic champion runner, says there are alternatives to cold outdoor workouts. You can join a gym or fitness center, take exercise classes or go walking indoors at a shopping mall. Without leaving your own home you can use home fitness equipment or exercise along with a workout video. There are even video games that offer a workout. At the very least, you can march in place or do sit-ups during commercial breaks while you watch television.
