 RESEARCH OVERVIEW

Recently, it has become accepted that the heart is capable of limited regeneration, This occurs through recruitment of both cardiac and extracardiac stem cell populations. Therefore, intense interest has been directed towards identification of novel resident cardiac stem cells. We have previously identified a novel hematopoietic stem cell population based solely on metabolic characteristics of stem cells (Sadek et al in press). Current research in my lab focuses on metabolic profiling and characterization of novel resident cardiac stem cell populations.

 RESEARCH INTERESTS

Resident cardiac stem cells
Myocardial regeneration using extracardiac stem cells
Stem cell metabolism
