Fellowships

The Rheumatology Fellowship Program is designed to provide a comprehensive experience for persons interested in careers in academic and clinical rheumatology.

Clinical training requirements are met in the first two years of fellowship. Fellows are strongly encouraged to participate in more substantial basic or clinical research projects that will involve additional years of training. The Rheumatic Diseases Division offers continuing learning and training opportunities. We provide clinical training in outpatient clinics and inpatient consultation services at Parkland Health and Hospital System, UT Southwestern University Hospital–Zale Lipshy, UT Southwestern University Hospital–St. Paul and the Dallas Veterans Affairs Medical Center. In addition to hands-on clinical experience, trainees attend a number of formal teaching conferences on various aspects of rheumatic diseases.

Research is a major emphasis of the Rheumatology Fellowship Program, which offers the opportunity for in-depth research in molecular biology and cellular immunology as well as patient-oriented research. Fellows interested in a career in clinical research are encouraged to obtain formal training leading to a Certificate or Masters of Clinical Science degree offered at UT Southwestern.
