Moncrief Cancer Institute among SECC charities

As you consider which groups to support in this year's State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC), we want you to be aware that, for the first time, UT Southwestern’s Moncrief Cancer Institute (MCI) is included among more than 1,000 state-approved SECC charities.

As part of the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center, the MCI provides valuable cancer screening and support services throughout North Texas to the underserved, including a mobile clinic that brings cancer prevention to community doorsteps. MCI is a proven leader in cancer screening and saves lives by detecting cancers at earlier, more treatable stages. Contributions to MCI reduce the physical and financial burden on patients and their families.

Each year, the SECC offers a simple way to collectively make a big difference. You can easily direct contributions through payroll deductions or one-time gifts. If even half of all state employees donate just $2 per paycheck, we can raise $3 million to help fellow Texans in need. Please take a moment to explore an opportunity that best reflects your values by visiting our SECC site or secc-campaign@utsouthwestern.edu any questions.

Also, mark your calendars for Oct. 18 (11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.) for an SECC Fair on McDermott Plaza. More details will be forthcoming.

To the UT Southwestern community:

We sometimes overlook how much impact we can have collectively when we come together as a community to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

The annual State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC) of Texas offers such an opportunity at the start of our academic year. The SECC gives us a chance to appreciate how our contributions, taken together, can change lives and perspectives, ease burdens, bring relief, and reinvigorate focus on issues that need attention. On North Texas Giving Day tomorrow, we encourage you to help kick off this year’s campaign at UT Southwestern by making a gift through the SECC.

The SECC is our Texas-approved mechanism to transform our donations into action on topics ranging from health care initiatives and disaster relief to animal welfare and environmental sustainability. You can participate either through monthly deductions or a one-time contribution. As a testament to the power of collective giving, even the smallest contributions can add up to a significant impact. If half of all state employees donate even $2 per paycheck, we will raise $3 million to help fellow Texans in need.

There are more than 1,000 charitable organizations to choose from, with a broad and diverse range of interests. You can use a simple tool to search through the options and find those that resonate with your values and passions. The SECC supports organizations globally as well as directly in Texas, so your donation can benefit our region’s communities or address the needs of the wider world.

Contributing to the SECC is convenient, thanks to the option of automatic payroll deductions. You can easily choose an amount that suits your budget and help support and improve the lives of fellow Texans.

Our goal at UTSW for this year’s campaign, which officially runs through Oct. 31, is $350,000. We invite you to take a moment to examine this year’s SECC site, take time to investigate the multitude of opportunities at hand, and take action to extend your compassion beyond the walls of UT Southwestern.

Thank you in advance for your generosity.
