Demolition of old Parkland draws near

Preparations for the demolition of the former Parkland Memorial Hospital begin next week, with minor utility work starting on Monday, May 15, on the adjacent Charles Cameron Sprague Clinical Science Building (CS), James W. Aston Ambulatory Care Center (U), and Dan Danciger Research Building (H). Significant planning has gone into keeping disruptions to a minimum, and the utility work is not expected to interrupt operations in the three facilities.

On May 22, partitions will be placed where Sprague, Aston, and Danciger connect to the old facility, blocking all access to the Parkland site. Pedestrian traffic through the old structure has been closed for several months. Fencing is being installed around the building’s exterior to enhance safety.

Additional work inside the old hospital begins next month to prepare for interior demolition in August.
