Simmons Cancer Center named 2026 Outstanding Employer by Oncology Nursing Society
The Oncology Nursing Society (ONS), known nationally and internationally for setting standards in cancer care, has selected the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center for its 2026 Outstanding Employer Award in recognition of exemplary support for oncology nurses. The award honors the work of oncology nurses and oncology advanced practice nurses across William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital, outpatient cancer clinics, infusion centers, clinical research, and radiation oncology at UT Southwestern.
“This distinction reflects our commitment to fostering a culture of excellence, engagement, and well-being, supported by strong leadership,” said Carlos L. Arteaga, M.D., Director of the Simmons Cancer Center and Associate Dean of Oncology Programs. “It is a testament to the dedication of our teams – both in delivering exceptional care to patients and in creating an outstanding work environment. This global recognition reinforces UT Southwestern Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center as an employer of choice and strengthens our ability to attract and retain top talent.”
Given by the leading professional organization for oncology nursing, the annual award recognizes one employer that demonstrates exceptional commitment to supporting and advancing oncology nursing practice.
“Across UT Southwestern, we are proud to have 564 oncology nurses serving patients in inpatient, outpatient, radiation oncology, and advanced practice roles,” said Charlene Stein, M.H.A., RN, OCN, Director of Oncology Clinical Operations. “This distinction reflects our strong alignment with ONS values of innovation, excellence, advocacy, and inclusivity.”
Simmons Cancer Center nurses consistently engage with ONS through membership, local and national leadership and committee roles, poster and podium presentations, attendance at ONS Congresses, and utilization of ONS resources – opportunities made possible through UTSW investment such as financial support for membership dues, protected time for professional development, and funding to attend national ONS events.
“At Simmons Cancer Center, we are deeply committed to elevating oncology nursing practice and transforming cancer care for every patient we serve. By actively leveraging the resources, education, and professional development opportunities offered by ONS, we empower our nurses to deliver the highest standard of care,” Ms. Stein said. “Receiving this award is a testament to UT Southwestern’s unwavering dedication and commitment to oncology nurses, the entire care team, and the exceptional, compassionate care they provide to patients throughout their cancer journey.”
