UT Southwestern names interim dean for medical school
DALLAS — May 1, 2009 — UT Southwestern Medical Center President Dr. Daniel K. Podolsky today issued the following statement to the campus community regarding the appointment of an interim dean for UT Southwestern Medical School:
As you are aware from the announcement last week, dean and provost Dr. Al Gilman will step down from those roles to assume the position of chief scientific officer (CSO) of the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) and become professor emeritus of pharmacology at UT Southwestern, effective June 8, 2009. In his new role as CSO of CPRIT, he will oversee the scientific review and grants review processes of this new state agency.
I am pleased to inform you that Dr. Charles M. Ginsburg has agreed to serve as interim dean of UT Southwestern Medical School. Dr. Ginsburg has extensive academic experience and has been associated with UT Southwestern Medical School since 1970. He is former chair of the Department of Pediatrics and currently serves as senior associate dean for academic administration and professor, holding the Marilyn R. Corrigan Distinguished Chair in Pediatric Research.
Dr. Ginsburg will assume the interim dean position on June 8. Over the next several weeks, he will work closely with Dr. Gilman and with the academic department chairs to ensure a seamless transition. At the same time, the search committee established last fall will continue to work toward the selection of a permanent successor to Dr. Gilman.
