2008 Annual Women's Health Symposium scheduled for February 5

DALLAS – Jan. 10, 2008 – UT Southwestern Medical Center will hold its 2008 Annual Women’s Health Symposium on Tuesday, February 5, with topics to include facing a major illness and understanding autoimmune diseases.

“A Day for Women’s Health” will include presentations by and discussions with leading UT Southwestern physicians. It will take place from 8:30 a.m.  –  12:30 p.m. on the UT Southwestern North Campus in the Excellence in Education Foundation Auditorium located in the Simmons/Hamon Biomedical Research Buildings, 6000 Harry Hines Blvd.

The event, sponsored by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and its Foundation for Excellence in Women’s Health Care, also will include a “hot topics” panel discussion of non-surgical cosmetic options, sleep disturbances and communication styles.

The 2008 symposium is co-chaired by Trudy Best, Betsy Cullum and Sissy Cullum. This year’s steering committee members are Harriet S. Burrow, Leslie W. el-Effendi, Melissa S. Macatee, Nancy Perot Mulford, Lizzie H. Routman, Nancy Shutt, Diana Strauss and Barbara Stuart.

Ruth Altshuler is honorary chair; Carolyn Horchow and Patricia M. Patterson are founding co-chairs.

Speakers will be:

Dr. Elizabeth Maher, assistant professor of internal medicine and neurology and holder of the Theodore H. Strauss Professorship in Neuro-Oncology;

Dr. Nancy Olsen, professor of internal medicine and holder of the McGee Foundation Chair in Arthritis Research;

Dr. Jeffrey Kenkel, vice chairman of plastic surgery and holder of the Rod J. Rohrich, M.D., Distinguished Professorship in Wound Healing and Plastic Surgery;

Dr. Nilesh Dave, assistant professor of internal medicine and medical director of the Sleep and Breathing Disorders Center; and

Dr. Susan Cox, professor of obstetrics and gynecology, holder of the Gillette Professorship in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and faculty adviser for the event.

The registration fee for the symposium is $35, with lunch available for an additional $15. Lunch will be served from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. on the Fourteenth Floor in the adjacent T. Boone Pickens Biomedical Building.
