Garvey honored by University of Buffalo

Former UT Southwestern professor of surgery and chief executive officer for then Zale Lipshy University Hospital from 1987 to 1991, Dr. Ronald 'Skip' Garvey, has received the University of Buffalo School of Medicine distinguished alumnus award for outstanding career achievement.

Dr.Garvey was chief of the fund-raising committee for the school, now the University of Buffalo, State University of New York School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.

The former UT Southwestern professor headed Zale Lipshy, now a part of UT Southwestern, while on the faculty. After his retirement from UT Southwestern in 1993, Dr. Garvey served as interim director and later president of the UT Health Science Center at Tyler until 2002.

He was also team physician and then a consultant for the Dallas Cowboys for 30 years.
