Dr. Julio Pérez Fontán

Dr. Julio Pérez Fontán, professor and vice chairman of pediatrics, has been awarded the Joel B. Steinberg, M.D., Chair in Pediatrics.

Dr. Pérez Fontán's research involves neural mechanisms for lung injury -- specifically peptides called tachykinins -- that play an important role in the inflammatory response of the lungs to infections.

The Steinberg Chair was established by Dr. Steinberg's brother in 1999 to honor his many years of service, including serving as assistant dean of clinical affairs at UT Southwestern and vice president and director of medical affairs at Children's Medical Center Dallas.
