Health Watch -- Watch Your Eyes: Eyes at Work

Health Watch is a Public Service of the Office of News and Publications  and is intended to provide general information only and should not replace the advice of a medical professional. You should contact your physician if you have questions about any of these topics.

This week on Health Watch, were talking about protecting your vision. It may not be too surprising that people dont think to use protective eyewear when working around the house, but doctors at  UT Southwestern Medical Center found that even professionals such as construction workers arent wearing protective goggles at work. The majority of workplace eye injuries involve young men working in construction, many of whom werent wearing protective eye wear.

Dr. Preston Blomquist, a  expert on eye injuries, says that educating employers and construction workers in both English and Spanish on the importance of wearing protective goggles on the work site could help prevent most work-related eye injuries.

Next: Another time for protective eyewear.
