Bone marrow registration

At the blood donation drive held recently on the South Campus, Meghan McDonald, a fourth-year medical student from Dallas, performs a swab test that is the first step in becoming a bone-marrow donor. Ms. McDonald’s test results will be entered in the national bone marrow donor registry for possible matching with someone who needs the procedure. Assisting her are Dolly Christensen, a volunteer with the organization – and retired education coordinator in the Department of Radiology – whose daughter’s life was saved two years ago by a bone marrow transplant; and Eva Trevino (right), director of Carter BloodCare’s Be the Match program. The next blood drive on campus will be held early in 2010.
