Under the direction of Marilynn G. Punaro, M.D., the Division of Pediatric Rheumatology at UT Southwestern Medical Center serves as the major resource for pediatric rheumatology in North Texas. In the United States there are approximately 200 board-certified pediatric rheumatologists, and four of those are in our division. We receive referrals from all other children’s hospitals in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex, as well as more distant areas.
Excellence in Patient Care
We operate the largest and longest established multi-specialty clinic for children with rheumatic diseases in the region. In our rheumatology clinics at Children’s Medical Center Dallas and Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children (TSRHC), diseases managed include juvenile idiopathic arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, juvenile dermatomyositis, and scleroderma. We also have an interest in the diagnosis and management of a variety of rarer rheumatic diseases, including systemic vasculitis and auto-inflammatory conditions. We have a significant commitment to medical education, offering a rheumatology elective for pediatric residents and fourth-year medical students. We have one of the only 30 AGCME accredited programs for pediatric rheumatology fellowship training and have continuously trained fellows from all over the world for more than 20 years.
