Neonatal–Perinatal Medicine

One of the nation’s leading centers for neonatal–perinatal care, teaching, and research, UT Southwestern provides exceptional care for the most critically ill patients. U.S. News and World Report ranked our Division No. 18 nationwide in 2022.

The Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine’s large group of nationally recognized faculty members offer expertise in almost every aspect of modern neonatal-perinatal care and state-of-the-art research.

Through multidisciplinary, family-centered care over the past three decades, the Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine works to improve the standard of practice for neonates. We offer clinical services through Parkland Hospital, William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital, Southwestern Health Resources – Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas (THD), and Children’s Health℠. Our Division also encourages taking an evidence-based approach to clinical care.

Our faculty and scholars share a devotion to pursue knowledge by exploring unanswered questions, testing, and refining established methodologies in neonatal-perinatal care. As global leaders in research, we collaborate inside and outside our institution to generate discoveries in our field of expertise. Current studies involve basic science research, translational research, clinical research, quality improvement and more.

Our faculty’s mission is to impart knowledge, instill excitement for learning, and translate these into focused areas of research for our neonatal medicine trainees, pediatric residents, and medical students. Their wide-ranging research interests span topics such as pulmonary vascular biology, neonatal resuscitation, and long-term follow-up care.

Fellowship
Fellowship

The Fellowship Program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Of the 89 graduates since 1980, half chose a career in academic neonatology and half in clinical practice, in the U.S. and abroad. To date, 90 percent of graduates published at least one manuscript from research work during this fellowship.
