The Division of Pediatric Endocrinology at UT Southwestern Medical Center is committed to improving the health of infants, children, and adolescents by providing quality clinical services, furthering the understanding of endocrinologic disease through original research, and participating in the education of physicians at all levels of training.
Under the direction of Perrin White, M.D., Division Director, the division has fourteen full-time and two part-time faculty members and six fellows, all with varied interests in clinical and translational research as well as basic science. Additional support is provided by advanced practice nurses, nurses, dieticians, medical assistants, social workers, and a research coordinator.
Excellence in Patient Care
Our division provides all endocrinology services at Children's Medical Center Dallas, where we have a full service outpatient facility offering state-of-the-art diagnosis, treatment, and management of endocrine disorders. We serve a diverse population of children ranging from birth to 18 years of age residing in North Central Texas and the surrounding areas. We also serve children in the counties of far North Central Texas at Children's Medical Center at Legacy and the Children's Specialty Care Center in Southlake. Each year, we diagnose and treat 250-275 new diabetic patients and have approximately 12,000-13,000 outpatient clinic visits for both diabetes and endocrinologic conditions. Leadership in Research
Research interest in the division is varied and includes single- and multi-center projects. Four pediatric endocrinology faculty are actively involved in basic science research in areas that include the neuroendocrine regulation of energy balance, biochemical basis of cortisone reductase deficiency, VLGR1 studies, and signaling pathways relevant to growth plate chondrocyte differentiation. There are also several clinical research ventures being undertaken within the division and as a part of multi-center projects. Learn more about our state-of-the-art research.
Education of Future Leaders
Pediatric endocrinology faculty are committed to physician education and training and administer a postdoctoral fellowship program accepting two fellows per year. Pediatric residents and medical students are actively involved in the care of hospitalized patients with diabetes and endocrinologic diseases. A month-long elective, outpatient rotation is offered, as well as the opportunity to spend time as medical staff at a summer residential diabetes camp.
