Education and Training

The Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center plays a significant role in the education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows.

Medical Student Sub-Internship (Visiting Student Rotation)

Our four-week Sub-Internship offers immersive, hands-on training in Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery. Students assume sub-intern level responsibilities and work closely with faculty and residents in clinic, the operating room, and on inpatient services across our affiliated hospitals.

Students interested in pursuing Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery Residency are encouraged to apply and experience our collaborative learning environment and comprehensive clinical exposure.

Prerequisite: Completion of Third-Year General Surgery Clerkship

Rotation Application Details:

  • Applications must be submitted through VSLO beginning April 1, 2026.
  • In addition to the standard VSLO requirements, applicants must submit:
    • 1 Letter of Recommendation (does not have to be ENT)
    • 1 Letter of Intent
  • Selected students will be notified via email

Residency Program

The Otolaryngology Residency Program is one of the premier training programs in the country. The heart of our Residency Program is the busy, well-rounded clinical experience with an emphasis on the surgical management of the otolaryngologic disease. Our residents and faculty are a diverse group of people who share a common passion for providing the best care for our patients. We invite interested applicants to join us for a one-month elective rotation.

Fellowships

Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery offers four clinical fellowship programs (ACGME and Texas Medical Board-accredited) for U.S. and international fellows.
