Education & Training
The Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery plays a significant role in the education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows.
Medical Students – Away Rotation
Our Department invites third- and fourth-year medical students to join us for a four-week away rotation. Any student who has completed his or her general surgery rotation is qualified to apply for an away rotation, but preference is given to students who have an interest in pursuing a career in otolaryngology.
Students who participate in an away rotation will get two weeks at Parkland Memorial Hospital, one week at Children's Medical Center, and one week at Zale Lipshy University Hospital. At all three hospitals, students will see both pre- and postoperative patients in outpatient clinics where they will learn about the day-to-day management of otolaryngology patient care. For more information, please call 214-648-3102.
The Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery residency program is one of the premier training programs in the country. The heart of our program is the busy, well-rounded clinical experience with an emphasis on the surgical management of otolaryngologic disease. Our residents and faculty are a diverse group of people who share a common passion for providing the best care for our patients. We invite interested applicants to join us for a one-month elective rotation.
Otolaryngology offers both research and clinical fellowship programs for both U.S. and international fellows. Several of the programs are going through the approval and accreditation process.
