Education and Training

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology provides education to medical students, residents, and fellows in a number of dedicated programs.

Most notably, the UT Southwestern Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program trains more residents per year than any other Ob/Gyn residency program in the country – about 1 in 80 Ob/Gyns are trained at UT Southwestern.

Medical Students and Clerkships

We participate in medical student education every year of medical school, with major effort during the second through fourth years. These clerkships provide a broad breadth and depth of experience to our students under the guidance of dedicated and experienced faculty members.

Additionally, we offer clinical rotations through an extern program that allows students from other medical schools to train with us.

Externships

Residency Program

Our residency program is approved for 80 positions by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. Currently, we fill 18 positions per year from an applicant pool of the top medical school graduates in the United States.

Our residency program is four years long. Residents train at both UT Southwestern’s William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital and Parkland Memorial Hospital. At both clinical sites, our residents assist with close to 1,300 hysterectomies per year and the delivery of about 40 babies per day. The Parkland Labor & Delivery unit is one of the busiest in the country.

Our fellows receive extensive training in patient care as well as basic and clinical research and have the opportunity to teach our residents and medical students.
