Research Highlights

Epilepsy

The National Association of Epilepsy Centers, which evaluates medical facilities on a regional, national and international basis, has designated UT Southwestern Medical Center as a Level 4 epilepsy center, which is the highest level. Our physicians and researchers are leaders in epilepsy drug research, electroencephalography (EEG) evaluation, brain mapping methods and operative EEG techniques.

Parkinson’s Disease

UT Southwestern Medical Center’s clinical and research programs for Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders were established to provide patients with some of the most advanced treatments available in the U.S. Our research activities receive funding from the National Institutes of Health, the American Parkinson’s Disease Association (APDA), the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation (PDF) and the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

Neuro-Oncology

The Annette G. Strauss Center for Neuro-Oncology is the cornerstone of UT Southwestern’s Neuro-Oncology research. Its focus is to improve treatments available for patients – both inpatients and outpatients – and conduct research of tumors of the central nervous system, including benign and malignant brain and spinal-cord tumors.

Stroke-Neurovascular Disorders

Our researchers receive ongoing funding for numerous scientific studies in the fields of stroke, brain aneurysms and related disorders. UT Southwestern’s groundbreaking research often leads to advancements in diagnostic techniques and treatments that assist with stroke assessment and recovery.
