Education & Training
Faculty members oversee robust research and fellowship programs that are educating and training physicians and scientists who will further advance the cause of medicine in clinics, laboratories, and classrooms.
Internal Medicine has always sought to be academic in the fullest sense of the word, with no neglect of teaching, clinical care, or scientific investigation.
Residency Training Program: Outstanding in Every Respect
The Internal Medicine Residency Training Program at UT Southwestern Medical Center is among the best in the nation. It combines superb physical facilities, an internationally renowned faculty committed to teaching, and a large and diverse patient population. The resulting training opportunity for Internal Medicine residents is outstanding in every respect.
The breadth of experience Internal Medicine residents and fellows receive at UT Southwestern is unmatched. In 2010 Parkland Memorial Hospital, the primary adult teaching hospital for faculty physicians, was named one of “America’s Best Hospitals” by U.S. News & World Report for the 18th consecutive year.
Fellowships: A Broad Spectrum of Patient Care and Research
Internal Medicine fellowship training at UT Southwestern is designed specifically for those contemplating an academic career combining clinical practice with research and teaching.
The UT Southwestern clinical training environment takes full advantage of local facilities for trainee exposure to the broad spectrum of patient care. Fellows and faculty participate in teaching and patient care at UT Southwestern-affiliated hospitals, including Parkland Memorial Hospital, St. Paul University Hospital, Zale Lipshy University Hospital, and the Dallas Veterans Arfairs Medical Center. They also see outpatients in other facilities, including the Parkland Infectious Diseases Clinic, the Amelia Court HIV Clinic, and the VA Infectious Diseases Clinic.
The research training environment is especially rich and dynamic. UT Southwestern is one of the great medical research institutions in the world, and fellows pursue their research interests under the tutelage of a distinguished faculty.
