UTSW Unscripted: Douglas Dickson, M.D.

UTSW Unscripted is a compelling mini docuseries that highlights the authentic, unvarnished stories of UT Southwestern’s physicians and researchers. Each episode offers an intimate look at their personal and professional journeys, illustrating the passion and purpose that led these people to UTSW.

Born and raised in Ghana, Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery Douglas Dickson, M.D., came to the U.S. with $50 and a dream to become a doctor. Despite financial struggles, including being dismissed from medical school multiple times and facing homelessness, he persevered. Now an orthopedic spine surgeon at UT Southwestern, he’s known for his faith-driven care, long hours, and commitment to giving back – both to his patients and his home country.
