75th Anniversary Party on the Plaza

75th Anniversary Party on the Plaza

{Video opens with quick shots of folks setting up for a party that packed thousands of staff, faculty, students and friends on McDermott Plaza. Many clad cheery, bright blue T-shirts commemorating UT Southwestern’s 75th anniversary. Rock ‘n’ roll music is heard.

President Daniel K. Podolsky, M.D.: Good afternoon.

{People on the plaza break out in cheer.}

Dr. Podolsky: Today is really about you. Our researchers and those who work with you. About those of you who care for our patients: Physicians, nurses, other colleagues and our students and learners who work alongside them. 75 years ago, this month, we were launched as a small school and somewhat shabby circumstances—borrowed barracks and in the short time we have arrived to a campus which thrives and brings to bear the very best of facilities that support the work of the people on campus.

Marc Nivet, Ed.D., MBA: The medical school was formally established in May of 1943, and we’re having a part to prove it.

State Senator Royce West: And you just think about the shoulders you sit on in terms of those persons that founded this institution and think about 75 years from now…what this institution will mean not only to Dallas, the state of Texas, but also to this world.

{The plaza roars with clapping.}

State Rep. Rafael Anchia: And it is magnets like this like UT Southwestern that attract people not just from all over the Metroplex, but all over the world to Dallas, Texas.

Nivet: Now I have the wonderful privilege of introducing the Transactivators!

{The Transactivators band got the crowd singing and dancing. The band includes UT Southwestern’s Dr. Eric Olson, Professor and Chair of Molecular Biology and Director of the Hamon Center for Regenerative Science and Medicine; Dr. Jay Schneider, Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Associate Director of the Hamon Center; Dr. David Rogers, Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology; and Stephen Johnson, Software Systems Supervisor in Molecular Biology}

{Video ends with a montage of photos of prideful partygoers.}
