My proudest UTSW accomplishment: I am most proud of our pediatric neurovascular fellowship graduates. Wilmot Bonnet, M.D., a former Chief Resident and our first fellow, joined me as a pediatric stroke attending after he graduated. Angel Maldonado Soto, M.D., Ph.D., is now the sole pediatric vascular neurologist in the Caribbean, and Fiza Laheji, M.D., is an Assistant Professor at Emory University. I am the founding Editor-in-Chief of the new online and open access journal Pediatric Stroke. We are now one of the leading enrollers in pediatric stroke registries and clinical investigations and, as of April 2026, participate in an ongoing National Institutes of Health-sponsored clinical trial in pediatric stroke! It’s a team sport and we are growing the team.
