William W. Turner Jr., M.D.: 35 years

First UTSW job: Intern in the Department of Surgery.
Best part about my job: I love surgery.
How co-workers describe me: I think that most would view me as a good teacher, a detail-oriented surgeon, and a patient-oriented physician.
Best UTSW memory: I have so many memories that span my years at UT Southwestern. Some are funny, some sad, and some gave me great opportunities to grow. It would not do justice to pick only one.
My proudest UTSW accomplishment: I am most proud of being a faculty member in the Department of Surgery. I have had the opportunity to train and to learn from students, residents, fellows, and faculty colleagues. I have had the opportunity to help people.
I’m really good at: Fixing things.
Hobbies: My hobbies are reading history and working with audiovisual equipment. My greatest passion is being with my wife, who inspired me to go to medical school and to become a surgeon.
Surprising fact: As a young person, I participated in rodeos as part of my family’s horse and cattle operation.
Final note: I will miss being a faculty member at UT Southwestern when I retire later this year.
