David Balis, M.D.

Professor
Department of Internal Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine

First UTSW job: I joined the faculty in General Internal Medicine in 1995. Before that, I graduated from UT Southwestern Medical School in 1988 and completed my internal medical residency here in 1992.

Best parts about my job: Helping patients quit smoking and be healthy. I also enjoy duties as Director of the UT Southwestern Nicotine Cessation Program, teaching medical students, working with internal medicine residents in the clinic and wards, and getting to know my patients, peers, and colleagues.

My proudest UTSW accomplishment: Starting the Nicotine Cessation Program at UTSW and becoming Professor.

I’m really good at: Swimming.

Hobbies: Exercise.

Surprising fact: I have completed numerous triathlons and am a kidney donor.

Final note: I met my wife during medical school at UTSW and we married in 1993. We have two grown children.
