“Pioneered the Palliative Care program.” “Bedrock of our clinic!” “Helped build the Rapid Response Team.”

These impressive phrases are woven throughout the nominations of a dozen UT Southwestern RNs who represent the institution as winners of the 2023 D Magazine’s Excellence in Nursing Awards.

Each year, the publication honors nurses in three categories: Direct Care, Education/Research, and Leadership. Hundreds of nominations are submitted by peers and patients from all over the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The 2023 awardees exemplify what it takes to be recognized in this program.

“It’s an honor that these 12 UT Southwestern nurses were singled out by patients and health care professionals in North Texas for their outstanding work,” said Susan Hernandez, D.N.P., M.B.A., RN, Associate Vice President and Chief Nurse Executive. “Their impact on our community is evident every day as they deliver patient care with excellence, educate the next generation of nurse learners, and provide visionary leadership. We are so grateful they choose to practice at UT Southwestern.”

Associate Chief Nursing Officer of Nurse Excellence Christi Nguyen, D.N.P., RN, FACHE, NEA-BC, said she was proud of this year’s slate of UTSW honorees. “These nurses were nominated by their peers throughout the community for this honor and they certainly embody nurse excellence. I’m delighted to see representation from not only our hospital, but across so many of our ambulatory clinics.”
