The award season for UT Southwestern nurses is in full swing and D Magazine’s “Excellence in Nursing Awards” shine a light on no less than 21 of our superheroes in scrubs.

D Magazine, whose print readership is nearly half a million, honors North Texas nurses annually through nominations from medical professionals and patients in three categories: Education/Research, Leadership, and Direct Care. Nominees are judged by a panel of health care leaders, who score each application; the nominees with the highest scores in each category become finalists.

Winners are featured in the March 2019 issue of D Magazine.

“Our nurses are at the heart of the work we do here every day,” said Dr. John Warner, UT Southwestern Executive Vice President for Health System Affairs. “This recognition of their dedication to patient care, education, research, and leadership exemplifies their commitment to upholding the UT Southwestern community mission.”

On Jan. 22, the UTSW winners were celebrated with a luncheon at the Faculty Club with congratulatory remarks from Dr. Warner and Associate Vice President and Chief Nursing Executive Susan Hernandez.

“UT Southwestern has been well-represented in this program in the past,” Ms. Hernandez said, “but this year, I’m so impressed that 21 of our nurses were singled out by patients and health care professionals across North Texas for their outstanding work. What a tremendous honor – I could not be more proud of these terrific nurses and their unwavering pursuit of excellence in patient-centric care.”
