Dr. Joseph Ready, Professor of Biochemistry, has been appointed to hold the Bonnie Bell Harding Professorship in Biochemistry.

Dr. Ready, who joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2003 as a Southwestern Medical Foundation Scholar in Biomedical Research, runs a laboratory that is focused on natural products synthesis, medicinal chemistry, and synthetic methodology. He has special interests in the discovery and application of new chemical reactions, as well as the synthesis of biologically active small molecules – especially complex anti-cancer agents – from marine and bacterial sources and of synthetic compounds discovered through high-throughput screening.

A graduate of the University of North Carolina, Dr. Ready completed his graduate studies in chemistry at Harvard University, investigating epoxide ring opening reactions, before postdoctoral work on total synthesis at Yale University.

He was a member of the Endowed Scholars Program’s sixth class (2003-2007), joining the faculty as an Assistant Professor.
