AOA Honor Medical Society welcomes 71 new members

The UT Southwestern Medical Center chapter of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society (AOA) recently inducted 71 new members. The Annual Induction and Awards Ceremony banquet of the Gamma Chapter of Texas took place March 19 at the A.W. Harris Faculty-Alumni Center. Robert W. Haley, M.D., Professor of Internal Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases and Geographic Medicine, delivered the Lyman E. Bilhartz, M.D., AOA Lecture at the event. A Distinguished Teaching Professor, Dr. Haley spoke on “A New Perspective on the History of Southwestern Medical School.”

AOA members are selected based on high academic standing, leadership among peers, professionalism, a firm sense of ethics, promise of future success in medicine, and a commitment to serve in the school and community.

  • Dr. Callan holds the Aaron A. Hofmann, M.D. and Suzanne Hofmann Distinguished Chair in Orthopaedic Surgery in Honor of Richard E. Jones, M.D., and is a Dedman Family Scholar in Clinical Care.
  • Dr. Haley holds the U.S. Armed Forces Veterans Distinguished Chair for Medical Research, Honoring Robert Haley, M.D., and America’s Gulf War Veterans.
  • Dr. Kane holds the Crystal Charity Ball Distinguished Chair in Plastic Surgery.
