UT Southwestern’s Access Center teams were honored at the 2019 Patient Access Collaborative Symposium with the Patient Access Center Award of Excellence.

This award is representative of the outstanding contributions made by faculty and staff across our organization who have fundamentally transformed the way we approach access at UTSW, said Candace Baer, Associate Vice President of Ambulatory Operations.

The Patient Access Collaborative is comprised of 65 academic health systems nationwide that work to create benchmarks, share data, and establish best practices. Each year, the Award of Excellence is presented to the three highest ranking institutions, scored by metrics that measure successful efforts to improve patient access. Measured objectives include service levels, average speed of answer, abandonment rate, referral conversion rate, employee turnover rate, and average handle time for calls.

It is undeniable that the dedicated people on our project teams and the staff on our front lines genuinely believe in the end goals of these objectives, said Calvin Mitchell, Senior Director of Network Management for Southwestern Health Resources. This is a tremendous source of pride to have the ongoing efforts of the Patient Access Strategic Initiative validated in this way.
