Welcome to the Sumer Lab

Our lab conducts translational research that seeks to uncover mysteries of cancer and develop powerful methods for its detection and cure.

To achieve universal tumor targeting, we have been working with ubiquitous tumor markers, or “hallmarks of cancer.” We have shown that targeting two such hallmarks, tumor metabolism and the tumor immune environment, allows us to image a wide variety of cancers and alter the anti-cancer immune response. We have also discovered that the acidic cancer microenvironment can be imaged to provide information to surgeons during surgery.
