Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) is a multimodal perioperative care pathway designed to optimize early recovery for patients undergoing major surgery. ERAS represents a paradigm shift in perioperative care.

Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) pathways feature evidence-based treatments to optimize your care before, during, and after your surgical procedure.

Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS)

The Enhanced Recovery After Surgery programs at UT Southwestern are innovative pathways designed to optimize your surgical experience. They were created in collaboration with multiple specialties in order to improve your surgical outcomes and overall satisfaction. These evidence-based pathways have already been shown to improve pain control, decrease surgical complications, and reduce the amount of time you need to stay in the hospital.

This ERAS website is a place where you can easily learn more about your surgery, such as what to expect before, during, and after your surgical procedure. It will also educate you about the goals for your surgical experience and prepare you to be an active participant in your care. You will find videos describing what to expect during your hospitalization, as well as the most frequently asked questions patients have about ERAS. You are encouraged to review the website and videos and reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns. We look forward to taking care of you soon!
