Dr. Juan Herrejon, who will serve his family medicine residency in Seattle on the Swedish Medical Center/Cherry Hill Campus, is the recipient of the 2018 Minnie Lee Lancaster, M.D., Scholarship Award in Family Medicine.

“I desire to work with underserved populations, in particular the Latino and LGBTQ communities,” Dr. Herrejon said. “I ultimately want to utilize my practice and medical knowledge to address health disparities and create or advise policy to improve the landscape of our health care system.”

Dr. Dan Sepdham, Associate Professor of Family and Community Medicine, called Dr. Herrejon an amazing student.

“I’ve been his mentor in the Academic Colleges, and I’ve been privileged to watch him mature into a wonderful physician over the past four years. I know he’s going to be an outstanding family physician because his heart is in the right place. I also expect he will be a future leader within our field,” Dr. Sepdham said.

The Minnie Lee Lancaster, M.D., Scholarship Award in Family Medicine honors Dr. Lancaster and her husband, Dr. Edgar Lancaster, who in 1953 opened the Grapevine Clinic and Hospital, the first clinic in Grapevine and the forerunner of Baylor Scott & White Medical Center at Grapevine.

The Lancaster Award is the second honor for Dr. Herrejon, who along with fellow graduate Dr. Paul Anthony Rizk received the Class of 2018 Leadership Award.

Dr. Sepdham holds the Drs. Malone V. Hill and John W. Pate Professorship in Family Medicine.
