Elena Nosyreva wins Best of Show honor.

Dr. Elena Nosyreva, an Instructor of Neuroscience and Physiology and regular entrant in the On My Own Time art show, earned four awards at this year’s 17th annual employee art show, including the coveted Best of Show honor.

Dr. Nosyreva, who loves spending time nearly every day in her home studio, is mostly self-taught as an artist. The 10-year faculty member has expanded her interests with workshops in a variety of genres and techniques.

In addition to winning the Best of Show Award – for an Enhanced Photography/Computer Art piece called Tea Time – she was recognized for the same piece with a first-place award in the amateur division of her category. In the Mixed Media category, another of her works, called Urban Sketch, earned the 2017 Sustainability Award plus an honorable mention in the amateur division.

“At first thought, you may think of art and science as dichotomous,” Dr. Nosyreva said, “but the desire to experiment, be curious and creative to build on the body of knowledge, demonstrates that art and science have much in common.”

Best of Show honors were determined by a panel of judges who viewed the more than 100 artworks entered in the show.

Her hours spent doing her art “on her own time” has generated a satisfying body of work which is recognized with awards in many of the juried shows in which she participates.

“Each year, the high quality of the OMOT art entries reflects not only the talents of our people, but also UT Southwestern’s standards for excellence,” said Courtney Crothers, Art Curator at UT Southwestern. “I am proud of the pieces that will represent us at this year’s regional show. The OMOT participants did some really outstanding work.”
