Metabolism and its Role in Retinal Degeneration

The Wert laboratory is interested in studying the metabolism of the retina and the metabolic dysregulation that occurs during the progression of retinal degenerative disease. In particular, the laboratory focuses on metabolic rescue and reprogramming as a method of neuroprotection for the photoreceptor cells of the retina, and a potential therapeutic approach to treat patients with retinal dystrophies regardless of their genetic mutation.
