Wilms Tumor

Wilms tumor is the most common childhood kidney cancer.

Wilms Tumor

In collaboration with our UT Southwestern colleagues, Dr. Dinesh Rakheja and Dr. Josh Mendell, we recently carried out whole-exome sequencing of a collection of Wilms tumors from patients being cared for in the Pauline Allen Gill Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children’s Medical Center.

We identified novel mutations that shed new light on the mechanisms of Wilms tumor, including mutations in the microRNA-processing enzymes DICER1 and DROSHA.

We are actively conducting further mechanistic studies of Wilms tumor driver mutations, with the goal of developing new targeted therapies for this disease.
