Surgery Research Equipped for Success

 

New equipment in the Department of Surgery promises to make our labs more efficient and capable. Notably, the department has acquired a state-of-the-art microscope and imaging systems.

First Annual Faculty Retreat This Summer

 

The first annual on-campus retreat for both faculty and staff is set for July 24.

Guest Speakers for Endowed Lectures

 

The Department of Surgery would like to acknowledge the guest speakers of our endowed lecture series. Endowed lectures are an important part of the UT Southwestern trainee curriculum, and the Department of Surgery is privileged to welcome future guest speakers onto our campus.

New Clinics at Texas Health Dallas

 

This year, the Department of Surgery expanded its presence by opening two clinics at a community hospital, Texas Health Presbyterian, in Dallas: the UT Southwestern Bariatric Surgery Clinic and the UT Southwestern Surgical Oncology Clinic.

Department to Host Surgical Society Chairs

 

The Department of Surgery will be hosting the Society of Surgical Chairs (SSC) Women’s Committee spring leadership meeting in April.

Robotic HPB Program Expands to Whipple Procedure

 

In recent years, the division of surgical oncology has been providing a robotic surgical approach to treat different malignancies. Over 200 robotic procedures have been performed on the UT Southwestern Medical Center campus, including at the Dallas Veterans Affairs Medical Center, for complex gastrointestinal and hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) malignancies by our team.

Research Under New Leadership

 

The Department of Surgery is pleased to announce the consolidation of its research efforts. The program is under the direction of the vice chair of research for the department, Rolf Brekken, Ph.D. Dr. Brekken is assisted by the manager of basic science operations, Deborah Carlson, Ph.D., and the manager of clinical research, Nadia Nassaj, M.S.

UT Southwestern Expands Awards for Faculty

 

This year, UT Southwestern initiated a new slate of awards designed to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of clinical faculty. These awards, dubbed the Leaders in Clinical Excellence Awards, will be given annually to those clinical faculty members who embody the very best in clinical and institutional excellence in six categories, based on criteria developed by a committee of faculty and administrative leaders.
